Policies
Deposit and Cancellation Policy:
A deposit of 50% is required to hold your reservation; the balance will be due 30 days prior to arrival. Because of our small size, cancellations or date changes affect us significantly. We understand that things happen, therefore we highly recommend that you consider purchasing travel insurance from your insurance company or through your travel agent. We uphold a strict cancellation policy. Your deposit will be refunded if cancellation is made at least 60 days prior to arrival. After that, we regret that no refund is possible, regardless of the reason for non-arrival or early departure. There are many options to purchase travel insurance online at very reasonable rates, and we encourage you to consider this option.
Liability Waiver and Assumption of Risk:
All guests must sign a Liability Waiver and Assumption of Risk. Scotlyn Ranch is beautiful and rugged land and many of the activities and adventures have a certain amount of risk associated with them. You must assess the dangers involved yourself, if there is any activity or adventure that you have signed up for that you become uncomfortable with at any time, we will gladly refund you the cost of that activity and try to find you a different activity. It saves time at check in if you read and sign the liability waiver prior to your arrival. You can download the Liability Waiver here: (link)
Pets:
Pets are generally not allowed at Scotlyn Ranch, largely because it isn’t a great place for pets. However, we do allow bird dogs if you are here to wingshoot. Dogs are never allowed in the lodge and are only allowed in cabins if you keep them in a pet carrier when they are inside. Our cabins have wood floors and are easily scratched by dog’s claws. We do have kennels and other facilities to keep your dog safe and happy if you are staying in the lodge.
Children:
We are very careful with our bookings to not book families with children at the same time as all-adult groups. Although we do not designate specific weeks as family or adult only, we are a very small ranch and we know who is booked and will only book families with other families and adult groups with other adult groups.
That said, we love children and children love our ranch. We built this ranch for our family and our one year old daughter loves to get out and see the animals on a daily basis, loves hanging out in her pack-and-play on the dock watching the ducks and enjoying the breezes across the pond. She squeals with joy when riding on Jaclyn’s lap in the side-by-side (Daddy driving, of course!). Kids three and under are free, and we can provide pack-and-plays and cribs. Children four and up love the ranch and have lots of activities they can participate in. We can arrange babysitting services and if you bring your own child caretaker, we offer 40% off our normal rates for a non-participant caretaker.
Physical Fitness / Medical:
We have many multi-generational families enjoy the ranch and we have activities enjoyed by people of nearly every age. However, several activities are strenuous, and some are dangerous. The nearest hospital is about 25 minutes away and while it is a very good hospital, a serious medical emergency may need to be transported by air to Spokane or Seattle which is extremely expensive. If you purchase travel insurance, you may want to make sure that medical transport is covered. If it is not covered, or you choose not to purchase travel insurance, we highly recommend signing up for Life Flight https://www.lifeflight.org/. The cost is only $65 for your entire family for a year and covers you anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. Fortunately we have never had a guest need to be life flighted off the ranch, but it is extremely cheap insurance and even if your travel insurance or health insurance “cover” medical evacuation, for $65, I personally recommend it just in case your insurance refuses to cover the cost. A medical evac from our ranch to Seattle can easily be $75-85,000. And no, I don’t get a commission, I am a customer and pay the same rates. 🙂
